Li Liu's inspiration for the Longfor Blue Engine Industrial Park stemmed from the gradual change of blue along the Danshui River, a color that also represents the Longhu logo. This led to the concept of the "blue engine", a metaphor for the transformation of the old city and the introduction of engine-function enterprises. The ultimate goal was to generate greater energy to drive the renewal and change of the urban plate with a global vision.
The unique properties of this design lie in its preservation of the city's original atmosphere and memory. The project retains the essence of the factory area and introduces eight boxes with different textures into the warehouse. These boxes are endowed with various functions, defining a reasonable moving line and functional zoning. This approach offers a departure from the traditional "display-sales" scene of exhibition halls, providing visitors with a more open and free space.
The realization of this design involved the use of various materials, including water ripple board, white/gray granite, gray artificial stone, drawn titanium/gray stainless steel, mirror stainless steel, aluminum corrugated composite plate copper strip, gray/white metal texture coating, clear mirror, 5 + 5mm tempered laminated hot-melt glass, acrylic, and leather.
The design process began in November 2019, with the project opening its doors in October 2020. The project is located in Zhuanqiao, Shanghai. Li Liu served as the chief designer, supported by a dedicated design team.
The Longfor Blue Engine Industrial Park stands as a testament to the power of design in driving urban renewal. Its recognition with a Silver A' Design Award underscores the project's innovation and excellence, reflecting a remarkable level of technical expertise and artistic skill. As Li Liu's design continues to inspire and amaze, it sets a high bar for future urban renewal projects.
